Sunday in Kampong Cham

We got up early and left just before 5:30 am. (2 weeks ago).  We wanted to be at the Church building before the members arrived so we could greet them.  It is always fun to meet new members.  They are always so excited.

These pictures were actually after church was over

I think he was trying to climb back in.

Primary

There were also 2 baptisms after church.

A new friend, a little older than I am..(people are always interested in how old we are), asked. "why did you wear this?"(touching my white scarf).  I said, "Don't you like it?"  She said "no".  These people are so loving ...and honest.  They also like to touch my hair...

Getting on her bike to go home.

A member and his family needed a ride home so we took them.  It was about 30 min away.  We visited their home and they showed us around their farm.

This teenage boy, 16 yrs old, was so cute.  He showed me his cows.  I asked if they had names.  He said "cow".  He talked a little English.  Anyway, I said they needed a name."Do you just want them to be cow 1 and cow 2?'  Thinking he really had named them or may want to.  He just laughed.  A while later when we were leaving and saying goodbye, he said,"Good Bye from cow 1 and cow 2"  Oh funny people...

Their rice had just been harvested.  They kept most of it, and may sell some when they need cash. You can see it in the round wicker container close to five feet high and probably 8 feet across  covered with a tarp.  This should sustain them through the year.  They also had chickens, fruit trees and small garden stuff growing.

This is the mother-in law.  She really was quite beautiful.

Crossing our path walking back to the car.  So cute...

Palm Tree Forest

Last Saturday, January 9, we took a little outing to see this Palm forest.  We had passed by it before, but had never drove into it.  It was a little over 2 hours from Phnom Phen,  So pretty.

We had packed a cooler with bread, peanut butter and jam and some drinks for lunch.

Before we got to the palms, we saw these water buffalo in the river, so we stopped to take a few photos.

Notice how they look smooth.  They really are hairy.  You can see that from Dad's good picture on his blog.

The place we were at happened to be a little restaurant.
Dad in his desire to please me asked if I would like to eat lunch there.  I of course said yes.  It was such a scenic place.

Each table was on its own little deck overlooking the river.  I ordered for us while Dad was getting closer to the water buffalos.  Meantime, the owner came to our table and removed our chairs and replaced them with nicer ones.  Cambodians always like to give you the best and help you.  Their nature is so sweet.

Here is Dad eating the fried fish I ordered for him.  Well, I should say, tasting the fish...  It was wrapped in foil and looked great!  He unwrapped it and started eating it, he gave me a piece and it was delicious.

But only for a bite or two because all the guts, head and everything were still there,  Pretty gross... We went back to plan A and ate our peanut butter sandwiches.

The Palm Forest

We ran into these little boys out in the middle of nowhere.  They were herding their cows.  (a little bicycle is as good as a horse, right?)  They were so cute.  I had previously learned the Khmer word for cow and eat so I tried to communicate a little about their cows.  Dad was absolutely darling with them and he kidded about him riding their cows.  The boys laughed, but made it clear it was not a good idea.

There wasn't a seat on the bike and Dad was kidding about riding it, but how could he without a seat!  They just laughed and laughed!

Palm Trees are my heaven tree...

We gave them a couple of tootsie rolls and a Sprite and we were friends forever.! As we were driving away, I rolled my window down to wave and say goodbye again and the older boy ran and grabbed my hand and gave it a big squeeze!  Then blew us a kiss! They were so lovable.
